The Beginning

In September 2025 I will begin home education with my son who will be 4 years old. Just to explain my background, I have been a qualified teacher for over 16 years, after achieving a first class degree in Primary Education. I have experience teaching all year groups at primary level across multiple schools, also serving on the Senior Leadership Team as Head of Key Stage 1 and Early Years. I also worked as a private tutor, tutoring children from Reception to Year 7, and recently completed a Master's in Early Childhood Education at University College London conducting research for my thesis "Following Children's Interests In A Reception Classroom". 

For reasons that will be shared with you later, my husband and I made the decision that we would home educate. This decision actually came quite easily and just became a matter of us vocalising our decision. 

The purpose of this blog is to share our experiences with you from the beginning. This will include resources, events and lessons learnt. In the next posts I will explain what home education is, share our reasons for home educating, and what I am doing in preparation for September as well as many other things. There is so much to think about, so much to consider, and so many thoughts and feelings. I really hope you find this blog informative, supportive and non-judgmental. This is purely from my perspective, my experience, and my own opinions.
